Horizontal shiplap paneling adds clean horizontal lines that make short hallways feel significantly longer and more spacious. Secure interlocking MDF or solid pine shiplap boards horizontally across the wall using construction adhesive and brad nails driven into studs, starting from the baseboard and working upward. Cap the top edge of the final shiplap board with a protruding picture rail molding fitted with a top groove. Paint the entire paneling assembly in a clean satin white or warm neutral shade. The top picture rail allows you to lean and layer small framed art, decorative plates, or seasonal greens along the ledge without punching multiple holes into your wall surface.
