How to Create
The spiky rock-crusher earth dragon turns a coarse, marled wool or textured athletic sock into a rugged, subterranean beast covered in heavy stone-like armor plates. This design utilizes a charcoal, granite-gray, or oatmeal tweed sock, taking advantage of the rough knit texture to mimic rock surfaces. Stiff geometric armor plates cut from textured gray craft foam or upcycled corrugated cardboard are layered across the head, cheeks, and spine to give the dragon an armored, impenetrable appearance. The mouth features an earthy terracotta-colored lining with chunky, blunt foam teeth, while deep-set metallic copper button eyes glow from beneath heavy armored brow ridges.
To create this earth dragon, install a creased cardstock mouth plate into the toe of a gray tweed sock, lining the inside with rustic terracotta felt. Cut six blunt, square-shaped teeth from thick white or beige craft foam, gluing three along the upper jaw and three along the lower jaw to create crushing molars. Cut eight pentagonal armor plates from dark gray craft foam, dry-brushing the edges with black acrylic paint to simulate weathered stone. Glue three armor plates across the snout and brow, layering the remaining five plates down the back of the sock like overlapping tectonic scales. Form heavy brow ridges by gluing two thick rolled strips of gray felt over the eye area, placing two metallic copper shank buttons underneath the ridges to create deep, intense eyes. Glue two short, blunt triangular horn studs behind the head to complete the rocky armor.
