A collection of five to seven brushed macramé “feathers” or leaves in varying earthy tones (mustard, sage, terracotta, and cream) hung at staggered heights from a single wooden dowel.

Step-by-Step DIY Execution Guide

  • Cut a 24-inch natural birch dowel. Cut seven 15-inch “spine” cords and attach them across the dowel with Lark’s Head knots.

  • For each feather, cut 40 to 50 short 6-inch segments of 4mm single-twist cotton cord.

  • Attach the short cords down the spine cord using alternating Reef Knots / Square Knots to build the feather ribs.

  • Lay the knotted piece flat on a cutting mat. Use a wire pet slicker brush to vigorously brush out the twisted fibers into a dense, flat fringe.

  • Trim the brushed fibers into a tapered oval leaf/feather silhouette using sharp fabric shears.

  • Spray both sides generously with fabric stiffening spray or extra-hold hairspray and let dry under a flat weight.
