Step-by-Step DIY Execution Guide

  • Construct an 8-inch wide, 6-inch tall coiled cotton rope basket using white sewing thread and a zigzag stitch.

  • Prepare a shallow plastic bucket with 2 inches of warm water, 2 tablespoons of liquid terracotta/rust fabric dye, and 1 tablespoon of salt.

  • Pre-wet the bottom of the basket in clean water to ensure smooth dye absorption.

  • Submerge the bottom 2 inches of the basket in the dye bath for 10 minutes.

  • Lift the basket slightly so only the bottom 1 inch remains submerged for an additional 15 minutes to intensify the base color.

  • Remove, rinse under cold running water until the runoff is clear, reshape the damp basket over a circular bowl, and let dry in the sun for 24 hours.
