Project Overview & Aesthetic Design
A sleek, slim document and laptop sleeve crafted from dense 2mm chipboard, featuring a folding flap with concealed neodymium magnets, wrapped in matte black bookbinding cloth.
Step-by-Step DIY Execution Guide
-
Cut three panels from 2mm greyboard: Front ($10times13$“), Back ($10times13$“), and Flap ($4times13$“).
-
Lay panels on a table with a 3mm gap between them to form flexible folding hinges.
-
Carve shallow 0.5-inch circular recesses into the chipboard edges to countersink four small 1mm neodymium disc magnets.
-
Glue magnets in place with epoxy, matching polarity across the flap and front panel.
-
Wrap the entire exterior in black linen bookcloth, smoothing it over the hidden magnets.
-
Line the interior with soft microsuede or felt.

Pro Crafter Tip
Ensure the magnet polarity is checked three times before gluing; once wrapped under bookcloth, reversed magnets cannot be fixed without tearing the fabric.
